Твоје косе бусење

С моје главе чупа

Канџама О'Брајановим

Зубе

Онај који није

Јер ја нисам човечанство као ти

Ја сам још горе

А ни последњи човек

Одсвирај ми елегију на ребрима

У ритму саструганих честица прашине

Што падају право на маглу разлике

Да разлуче сумпор

Од лика дечијег

И образ од чизме под њиме

Загризи метак, Винстоне!

Видимо се у соби 102

На острву иза белине

Стегни мој челични струк

          Да подарим вам Сретењски устав* Новог доба                                                          

И радост смираја онога што бејаше бити*

1*. Сретењски устав (1835) један је од најлибералнијих устава свог доба, познат по томе што је прописивао да сваки роб који ступи на тло Србије аутоматски постаје слободан човек.

2*. .  “Оно што бејаше бити” (старогрч. τὸ δὲ τί ἦν εἶναι / to de ti ēn einai) је Аристотелов технички термин из Метафизике који означава суштину или бит неког бића – оно што оно по својој природи одувек јесте.

To free you from the cruel stepmother’s bondage of syntax,

To grant you the Sretenje Constitution* of the New Age,

And the joy of repose of that which it was to be.*

1*.  The Sretenje Constitution (1835) was one of the most liberal constitutions of its time, famous for decreeing that any slave who sets foot on Serbian soil automatically becomes a free person

2*.  “That which it was to be” (Ancient Greek: τὸ δὲ τί ἦν εἶναι / to de ti ēn einai) is Aristotle’s technical term from Metaphysics denoting the essence of a thing—that which makes it what it is by its very nature.

Оног непобедивога

Предухтрила сам их

Потамнело већ мртво оно

Кострет обукло

Да се шепури

Са свитком од неба под пазухом

Прља прозоре небеског окна

Док Земља тресе се

А билионер стоји на босој нози глиненог себра у пећини под гором

1. Сунцета / себар: Облик „Сунцета” представља намерну граматичку и поетску архаизацију којом се именица средњег рода персонификује у мушки род, у складу са култним епитетом Sol Invictus (Непобедиво Сунце). Реч себар је старом српском праву (Душанов законик) означавала сељака, зависног човека или припадника нижег, неплемићког сталежа.

Soiling the panes of the heavenly window

While the Earth trembles

1*.  Sunnan / hit / ċeorl: The author utilizes deep historical English layers to directly mirror the stylistic and grammatical subversions of the Serbian original. Sunnan is the historical Old English form for the Sun (evoking a mythic personification), while “hit” is intentionally used as the original Old English neuter pronoun for “it” (perfectly translating the Serbian „оно”). Furthermore, ċeorl (modern churl) refers to the lowest rank of peasants in Anglo-Saxon society, matching the medieval Serbian legal term sebar.
