Helmut Newton (born Helmut Neustädter; 31 October 1920 – 23 January 2004) was a German-Australian photographer. The New York Times described him as a "prolific, widely imitated fashion photographer whose provocative, erotically charged black-and-white photos were a mainstay of Vogue and other publications.

Newton was born in Berlin, the son of Klara "Claire" (née Marquis) and Max Neustädter, a button factory owner. His family was Jewish. Newton attended the Heinrich-von-Treitschke-Realgymnasium and the American School in Berlin. Interested in photography from the age of 12 when he purchased his first camera, he worked for the German photographer Yva (Elsie Neuländer Simon) from 1936.

The increasingly oppressive restrictions placed on Jews by the Nuremberg laws meant that his father lost control of the factory in which he manufactured buttons and buckles; he was briefly interned in a concentration camp on Kristallnacht, 9 November 1938, which finally compelled the family to leave Germany. 

 

Newton's parents fled to Argentina. He was issued with a passport just after turning 18 and left Germany on 5 December 1938. At Trieste, he boarded the Conte Rosso (along with about 200 others escaping the Nazis), intending to journey to China. After arriving in Singapore, he found he was able to remain there, first briefly as a photographer for the Straits Times and then as a portrait photographer.

Newton and wife finally settled in Paris in 1961 and the work continued as a fashion photographer. His images appeared in magazines including the French edition of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

He established a particular style marked by erotic, stylized scenes, often with sadomasochistic and fetishistic subtexts. A heart attack in 1970 reduced Newton's output, nevertheless, his wife's encouragement led to his profile continuing to expand, especially with a big success, the 1980 studio-bound stark infinity of the "Big Nudes" series. His "Naked and Dressed" portfolio followed and in 1992 "Domestic Nudes" which marked the pinnacle of his erotic-urban style, these series all underpinned with the prowess of his technical skills. Newton also worked in portraiture and more fantastical studies.

Newton shot a number of pictorials for Playboy, including pictorials of Nastassja Kinski and Kristine DeBell. Original prints of the photographs from his August 1976 pictorial of DeBell, "200 Motels, or How I Spent My Summer Vacation" were sold at auctions of Playboy archives by Bonhams in 2002 for $21,075, and by Christie's in December 2003 for $26,290

In 2009, June Browne Newton conceptualized a tribute exhibition to Newton, based on three photographers that befriended Newton in Los Angeles in 1980: Mark Arbeit, Just Loomis, and George Holz. All three had been photography students at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. All three became friends with Helmut and June Newton and to varying degrees assisted Helmut Newton. Each went on to independent careers. The exhibit premiered at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin and combined the work of all three with personal snapshots, contact sheets, and letters from their time with Newton.

In his later life, Newton lived in both Monte Carlo and Los Angeles, California where he spent winters at the Chateau Marmont, which he had done every year since 1957. On 23 January 2004, he suffered a serious heart attack while driving his automobile down Marmont Lane from the Chateau Marmont to Sunset Boulevard. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; doctors were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead. His ashes are buried at the Städtischer Friedhof III in Berlin.

Unplugged is a live album and DVD by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on July 30, 1996 by Columbia Records. It was recorded on April 10, 1996 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theatre for the television series MTV Unplugged. The show was directed by Joe Perota and first aired on MTV on May 28, 1996. The MTV Unplugged was Alice in Chains' first concert in two and a half years, and contains live, acoustic versions of the band's biggest hits and lesser-known songs. A new song, "The Killer Is Me", was performed for the first time during the concert. The acoustic version of "Over Now" (originally released on Alice in Chains' 1995 self-titled album) was released as a single. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. The performance was released on DVD on October 26, 1999, and re-released as a CD/DVD package featuring unaired footage on September 18, 2007. The home video release has received gold certification by RIAA.

Alice in Chains (often abbreviated as AIC) is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1987 by guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney, who later recruited bassist Mike Starr and lead vocalist Layne Staley. Starr was replaced by Mike Inez in 1993. William DuVall joined the band in 2006 as co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, replacing Staley, who died in 2002. The band took its name from Staley's previous group, the glam metal band Alice N' Chains.

2010 import reissue on double 180-gram vinyl LPs. Caught between heavy metal and grunge, Alice in Chains was a powerhouse band in the early 1990 's. Going acoustic seemed contrary to the band's very nature, but they were game to give it a try for MTV's famous show. Although their records dominated the charts for the first half of the decade, Alice in Chains had not performed a single concert since 1993. Given how good they sound together on this double LP cut during their performance on April 10, 1996, it is hard to believe they hadn't played a live concert together in 3 years. Reissued on 180-gram audiophile vinyl, Alice in Chains' "MTV Unplugged" is a strong performance worth repeat listening. It is no surprise the original album peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables is the debut studio album by the American punk rock band Dead Kennedys. It was first released on September 2, 1980, through Cherry Red Records in the United Kingdom, and later issued by Jello Biafra's own Alternative Tentacles label in the United States. It is the only Dead Kennedys album to feature drummer Bruce Slesinger and guitarist Carlos Cadona.

Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the defining punk bands during its initial eight-year run.

Dead Kennedys' lyrics were usually political in nature, satirizing political figures and authority in general, as well as popular culture and even the punk movement itself. During their initial incarnation between 1978 and 1986, they attracted considerable controversy for their provocative lyrics and artwork. Several stores refused to stock their recordings, provoking debate about censorship in rock music; in the mid-1980s, vocalist and primary lyricist Jello Biafra became an active campaigner against the Parents Music Resource Center. This culminated in an obscenity trial between 1985 and 1986, which resulted in a hung jury.

The group released a total of four studio albums and one EP before disbanding in 1986. Following the band's dissolution, Biafra continued to collaborate and record with other artists including D.O.A., NoMeansNo and his own bands Lard and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, as well as releasing several spoken word performances.

In 2000 (upheld on appeal in 2003), Biafra lost an acrimonious legal case initiated by his former Dead Kennedys band mates over songwriting credits and unpaid royalties. In 2001, the band reformed without Biafra; various singers have since been recruited for vocal duties. Although Dead Kennedys have continued to perform live over the years, they have not released any new material since the release of their most recent studio album Bedtime for Democracy in 1986.

Сликар и иконописац Мијалко Ђунисијевић каже да своје радове конципира и израђује полазећи од пронађених и одбачених предмета, а да је прву икону урадио тако што је пронашао даску коју је избацила река и помислио: „Овде би требало да насликам икону“. Као што преображава одбачено и непотребно и претвара га у нешто сушто, а не утилитарно потребно, Ђунисијевић тако преображава и наслеђе савремене уметности, у првом реду апстрактног експресионизма и поп арта, њихове већ примећене религијске аспекте преображавајући у иконичне.

Он не само да није равнодушан према нашем свету непотребном и одбаченом као материјалом од ког и неретко полазећи од ког слика своје радове, него их слика одбаченим четкицама, који бих се често постидели и основношколци. Али он слика перфектно, као да својом стваралачком и молитвеном снагом превазилази ограничења алата и преображава га у нешто више, наслућујући исход свега створеног у васкрсном акту, који ће, можда, како имплицира оваква његова пракса, обухватити не само оно природно, него и оно од човека као иконе Божије створено, као једнако вредно, у пуном смислу оправдавајући људско стваралаштво.

Исто тако, Ђунисијевић не одбације никога и обраћа се човеку свог времена као човек свог времена, али наглашава да смо сви исто пред Господом и судом његовим, без обзира на наш положај у овом свету, па и у црквеној јерархији, исповедајући да у Цркви заиста нема Грка и Јеврејина и да ће у овом свету понижени наследити Царство небеско. А то као да је превише тврда беседа за наше данашње уши, жељне самооправдавања које би да искупи неодговорност и млакост и склоне уљуљкујућим идеологијама којима често желе да потчине и реч Божију.

Због несклоности копизму и неспорне аутентичности, Ђунисијевића би чак и многи од оних који га цене радије (у безболније, мање обавезујуће) назвали сликарем него иконописцем, али ако је неко код нас иконописац то је, сматрам, Ђунисијевић. Он снажно осећа светост и божанско присуство и тражи начине да га што тачније и прецизније изрази кроз своје стваралаштво, не заклањајући се иза било каквих ауторитета, пракси, традиција. Он све то не одбацује, али је превише одговоран према искуству и доживљају божанске стварности, да би је сабијао у репродуктивне матрице или било какве конструкте. И то, да се, разумемо, не индивидуалистичком и произвољном схватању духовног искуства, него заиста саборном, црквеном, евхаристијском, разумевајући разликовање легиона и саборности – о ком пише на пример Вјачеслав Иванов – при чему саборност у потпуности очувава и афирмише непоновљиву јединственост и апсолутну појединачност људске личности, не остављајући нам простора за јефтине изговоре.

Ђунисијевићеви радови су иконописно утемељени јер су изразитио богословски утемељени и он има смелости да налази нова и до сада невиђена решења да изрази одређене свештене истине. У представи Уласка у Јерусалим, на пример Месију не дочекују само грађани него и смрт, а слика је композицијски врло вешто сливена са представом Распећа, које сваки елемент доводи у целину, која као таква по себи, мада не презентно, добија обрисе аутентичне представе Васкрсења. Жртвовање Исаково се на изузетан начин, у две независне представне на истом паноу, обједињене невероватно пронађеном црвеном бојом (бојом Бога, како каже овај сликар, алудирајући на њену способност да убедљиво представи божанску енергију као присуство и делатност Божију у свету), богословски снажно повезује са жртвом Христовом, осмишљавајући, и то непосредно и доживљајно, смисао сваке жртве и сваког жртвовања.

Ђунисијевић не крије и снажно на својим иконама представља слике зла и палости, али и снагу Божију која их кида, раскида, разбија у парампарчад. Где нема те снаге, као и за оне који је се одричу, постоји само смрт и зло, али где год се она појави смрт и зло беже, као пред огњем. Нема ту баналног идеологизованог тријумфализма, него истинског духовног искуства, које делује изнутра, наизглед тихо и неприметно, али заправо неумољиво, жестоко, пламено, ужасавајуће за све оно што је трулеж у нама, а толико тога је у нама.

Уметност Мијалка Ђинисијевића припада оном најређем, које ствара једну културу, преображавајући затечено у светлости дубоког духовног искуства, сведочећи шта би култура заправо требало да буде – не решетка и не застор пред невидљивим, не седатив, већ позив, призив, прозор и дах ка оностраном, не као његовој пукој опсервацији него као искуству и доживљају, сведочење његове непролазне реалности у пролазности материја и форми, без којих уметност не може. Ђунисијевић спада у оне аристократе уметности, који су неспорни мајстори стила, технике и форме, али који их не идолатризују, увек спремни да их одбаце пред снагом божанске реалности, а ако не да их одбаце, оно свакако да јој их не претпоставе, под било којим изговором, па макар и оним традицијом освештаним.

M. Kostić je pisao za par časopisa. Kako su se vremena menjala, on je sa nekako, spao na to, da piše samo za jedan časopis. 

Opet nakon nekog vremena, Kostiću je saopšteno, da će on, samo s’ vremena na vreme, objavljivati svoje tekstove. Kostić je pokušao da piše nešto i sam, ali on nije bio takva vrsta pisca, oduvek je radio u kancelariji, okružen ljudima i na kraju krajeva, uvek su mu bile zadate teme, o kojima će pisati tako da on, prosto rečeno, kod kuće nije mogao da napiše ni jedno slovo. 

M. Kostić i Gospođa Kostić, su nakon ovoga, ostali na jednoj, njenoj, mesečnoj, minimalnoj plati. Kostić je razumeo šta se oko njega dešava, ali na žalost, njemu nije uspelo da se ukomponuje u novi svet oko sebe. On je, da opet ne dužimo, bio od onih ljudi koji se veoma spetljaju, kada treba upotrebiti npr. moderni mobilni telefon ili daljinski od televizora, a svi znamo da takvih ima. 

Kostić je postao veoma zatvoren, namršten, zamišljen, Libido ga više nije služio, a najopasnije od svega je to što je sasvim izgubio apetit i vidljivo smršao. On je zapostavio i svoju higijenu. Počeo je smrdeti i Gospođa Kostić je tražila da spava na kauču. Za par meseci je izgedao kao pustinjak, sa već dužom kosom i bradom. Jednog dana je saopštio gospođi Kostić da ga napusti i da slobodno ode da živi srećnijim životom.

To bi bio kraj za gospodina Kostića, da Gospođa Kostić nije tada, tako gorko zaplakala...da nije, morao bih da opišem varijantu kako je M.Kostić, skočio sa prozora, sa petog sprata i da se zalepio za beton, ali eto nije, gospođa Kostić je zaplakala... 

M. Kostič se nekako, vremenom, pomirio sa "sudbinom“ i sada skromno živi sa svojom suprugom. On sada ide rano ujutru na pijac, posle toga, pomaže oko spremanja ručka.  Provodi mirna popodneva uz "dremku", do sumraka. 

Tada se sprema večera,  gledaju se večernje vesti i podrazumeva se večernja serija.

Kada bi sada pitali Gospodina M.Kostića da li je srećan on to ne bi znao da Vam kaže, niti da objasni. Njega je vremenom životna radost napustila ali on je uživao. Ništa u njemu nije više tražilo kancelarijsku gužvu ili da je imao potrebu za pisanjem, ne, njemu je nedostajalo društvo ali sa sadašnje pozicije, kada je već bio na toliko sahrana, polako je sebe ubedio da ni društvo "ne postoji" tj. nema ga. 

- Šta reći... - to su bile jedine poslednje reči upućene meni.

Više ga nisam nikada video niti čuo.
